happy birthday, madyson // birth stories // portland, oregon

This is the story of Madyson Maxine… MadMax… whose birth we raced down to Oregon for last week, practically upon hearing of the very first contraction.  Our week since then has been one of some personal trials, so as soon as I received this film today I knew that the right thing to do was to bask in the memory of being there for her amazing entrance into the world.

Leading up to her birth, the room was dark & quiet, loving & more peaceful than I could have ever imagined… and when she arrived, she let out the squeakiest little cry, and all anybody could do was laugh & cry along with her.

To my fellow film geeks out there who follow my blog (thank you!)… this set was shot with my Canon 1v & my Hasselblad H1 on Kodak TriX 400 pushed to 6400 & to 1600, respectively.

And to our dearest friends, Billy & Sarah… you two are going to be such great parents, and it was the best gift to watch you transition into parenthood with such peace & grace.  We love you!

Sarah - I’m crying again! I’m so happy you were both there and thank you for capturing such amazing moments! Xoxo

Todd Good - There is nothing more amazing than the birth of our own kind! You can only truly understand if you’ve stood in those shoes. Speechless frames Catherine!

Judy Keller - I, also, am crying again!! You have “painted” with film…a special, gentle birth!! I am speechless!! Thank you from my soul!

Ali M - Catherine, these are so beautiful! I want to cry as well! These photos are such a gift.

Mary W - So sweet and beautiful. I love these.

mike - Gritty. Real!

Jenn - My friend, these are soooo good. You need to consider doing these more often :) Congrats Billy and Sarah!!! Now you can touch Madyson’s toes instead of your own teehee :) (private silly ex-expectant mom joke).

Elaine - Oh, Catherine. That first picture? I’m speechless. How am I going to get you to fly all the way across the country in time to photograph my future baby’s birth story? I’m not close to that yet, but I need to think ahead ;-)
