sara & jeremiah // sayulita, mexico // destination wedding photographer

This wedding had all the details that you could possibly imagine—from the designer dresses & suits to the highly stylized decor at a super high-end venue—but in my opinion none of those details are worth noting in comparison to the utterly insane amount of love there was this entire day. Sara & Jeremiah did something I’d never seen before by reading their vows to each other before the ceremony, in private. It was beyond intimate, and so emotional & personal to them. Another something I’d never seen before… yes, you generally fly all of your friends & family members out for your wedding… but they took it above & beyond and actually flew in their favorite performer at their favorite local bar back in Colorado. So that everything about their reception felt like it was just another party with friends. But with lots of sunshine & some killer ass tacos.

I shot this wedding with the great Jillian Mitchell. At the wedding, there was a large group of women who were friends with Sara’s mom and who’d been friends for over thirty years… maybe it was forty. When they told us that, Jill looked over at me and said, “Promise me we’ll be at our children’s weddings together, getting drunk & dancing & telling the young kids how we’ve been friends forever & a day too.”

I promise.

Sara & Jeremiah did the most awesome dance together at the end… and then what happened after that, you will never know. The party that commenced was beyond anything that I could ever convey to you… so I suggest you check out Jill’s blog post about it, and then leave the rest to your imagination. Oh & for some more loveliness, check out her feature on Project Wedding. Way to go, Jill!

Please contact me if you’d love for me to photograph your destination wedding… I have a passport, I watch foreign films, and by nature I am racially ambiguous so I fit in anywhere. catherine@calimaportraits.com

mike - You kick so much butt with that Hasselblad, Cath. This is also inspiring in a different way…we’ve finally blogged our first wedding and don’t have anything nearly as awesome as this shot, but it does provide us with some food for thought for next week’s wedding!

ALI M - I love these a lot, Catherine. She has such a beautiful collarbone and you captured their intimacy so well. Really beautiful.

Ali M - Just revisited this post and noticed how you snuck yourself in there… ; ) pretty lady!
