“One is loved because one is loved. No reason is needed for loving.”
-Paul Coelho, The Alchemist
My friend & I were chatting today about our shared obsessions with the strength of serendipity & the power of coincidence & how we are so hyper connected… I constantly come back to that one line in Paul Coelho’s The Alchemist, “And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.” I know I’ve written that exact quote in this blog more than once, but I also know that I feel that my life revolves around that very philosophy. So many things that have happened in my life, so many people in my life, are what they are because of whatever you might want to call it—god, serendipity, coincidence—or as I like to think of it, because of my own desire for them to be so. For them to be here… to have my dreams become a reality & my desires to reveal themselves in full colorful, karmic swing. Even this friend, who I was chatting with, is someone who I met through a long string of shared coincidences & we just happened to pop into each other’s life, just like that. So cliche… but it was meant to be, and everything really does seem to happen for a reason. I had no other way to describe it, except, “it just blows my mind.”
After that conversation, and giving it more thought… I knew I had to share this photo shoot. I was hired by my friend Michelle to photograph her with her mom & sister, as a gift for Mother’s Day. It was sunny & fun & full of laughter, as are almost all of my family sessions… the thing about this session that made it so special to me, is that I have been a huge admirer of Michelle’s work for many years. Long before I had even moved to Seattle, I would send her emails & comment on her blog, inspired by her clear business sense & artistic vision. So it really hit me this morning, how honored I am & how it’s seriously pure serendipity that our friendship has reached this point… and how a few years ago while I was admiring her from afar, I would’ve never imagined that I would have the opportunity to work with her on such an intimate level.
So, here’s to Serendipity! And to love… always love.
